The Benefits for Men Doing the Housework

According to a recent report that are released by the Council on Contemporary Families suggests the payoff for men doing more chores could be more sex.

The report summarizes several recent studies on family dynamics and provides a point that “In the USA, men's absolute and proportionate contributions to household tasks increased substantially over the past three decades, substantially lessening the burden on women.” This report quote Coltrane’s research in 2000 says that women will have perceptions of fairness and better marital satisfaction, if husband do more of the housework. And it will decline marital conflict for the couple.

"More couples are sharing family tasks than ever before, and the movement toward sharing has been especially significant for full-time dual-earner couples," the report says. "Men and women may not be fully equal yet, but the rules of the game have been profoundly and irreversibly changed."

Joshua Coleman, a San Francisco-area psychologist says that equitable sharing of housework is associated with higher levels of marital satisfaction -- and sometimes more sex too!

It sounds reasonable, if husband who do more housework can raise the relationship of couple and sex life. But I am not sure whether this rule is suitable for Taiwan or not. The equality of men and women is accepted in the Western, but most Eastern families agree that women have to do the housework. But it seems to have a little change in recent years.

I think that Feminism and the concept of fairness between men and women are accepted gradually in the Eastern are critical factors that change the relationship between men and women. Furthermore, modern women have the ability to live dependently will be another important factor. Maybe, in the future, it is normal for couple sharing all hosework in the world.

For me, it is a very interesting news, because I always do the housework in my home. In fact, I am not always willing to do these chores, but just want to decline my mom’s burden. After understanding the benefits of doing housework, I think I will do more housework after marriage to help my marital satisfaction.
This website provides some useful skills that persuade men to do housework.
